What a nice compliment I received from one of the parent in the daycare where I work. It made me so happy and makes my heart melt. Hahaha!!!

Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, indoor

Parent and me convo today:
Parent: did you do something different?
Me: what do you mean?
Parent: you look so different.
Me: like what?
Parent: you look so beautiful.
Me: really? Thank you.

Hahahha, bisan ilad RA diay to. Mitoo pod, lanay dayon ag atay. Pastilan...
( Laughing... even I know it was not true)

This was just another compliment so far since I cut my hair and fix myself up. What I mean is, putting a little bit of lipstick and foundation when going to work, I really did not expect people will noticed it.

Well thanks to those who noticed my looks, really appreciated.

Five Green Speckled Frogs

6:58 pm 0 Comments
My baby's favorite felt story and rhyme. This felt story is one of my handmade creations "Arts & Crafts". Obviously the "Five Green Speckled felt story and his rhyme teaches basic mathematics from 1 to 5 and subtraction from 5 to 1. It enhances the children's also rhythm and recognition of the numbers.

Children will never get bored, when you introduce this simple but wonderful felt story. This can also be used for transition.

Five Green and Speckled Frogs

Five green and speckled frogs
Sat on the mossy logs
Eating the most delicious bugs
Yum! Yum!
One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool
Now there are four green speckled frogs.
(continue the rhyme until no more frogs)
Note: If anyone wants to know how to make this felt story just leave me a message on the comments below. Thank you!

Father - Daughter Relationship

5:25 am 0 Comments
FAMILY RELATIONSHIP - Family relationship is the most important for every individual on earth. However, family conflicts hinder everything, such as jealousy and other unknown problems, particularly the relationship between the father and the daughter, mother and son, etc., but the love is still there no matter what. When I read the articles about father and daughter relationship, I cried just before the class was started but I managed to go to the bathroom to calm myself down. I intended not to make this article but I changed my mind to prove myself that I had passed through all the sorrows and mourning, as well as acceptance that one of the most important person in my life has gone forever. It took a lot of courage to write this assignment, even though it tore my heart apart.

MY FATHER IS MY IDOL - My father had passed away about a year now (the date when I wrote this, now it is about 5 years). Nevertheless, I remember exactly who he was. Furthermore, I love my father as I love myself and I idolized him when I was young and perhaps even now. He protected me from bullies, including my brothers as well as from my mother’s punishment when I made mistakes. I became a spoiled brat however I made sure that I was good in school to make him happy too. I obtained first honors from grades 2 to 4, but he never came to my commencement exercises once, which made me confused. Due to our poor living conditions, my father and my mother decided to go to the other city to find work, and because of this we rarely saw each other. My brother and I stayed home and continued our lives as happy normal kids. Once or twice a month, they would come home to bring food and pay school fees, etc. I struggled a lot in my school when I was in grade 5 because I went to a different school and maybe because most of the time, I didn’t have food to eat. I was just very thankful to my teacher who was very supportive and understood my situation so that sometimes she would bring extra food for me. So much for that, I became third honors but only especial award when I graduated in grade 6.
VERY CONFUSED - In connection with this event, my heart dropped-out for nobody attended my graduation. I saw happy faces of my co-graduates with their parents except me which made me wish and hope for I would vanish forever at that time. After what had happened, I tried to ignore and forget everything and start a new life in high school. I devoted my time to study more and maintained my rank as a number two in academic and rank one in extra-curricular activities. I really thought that, the reason why nobody showed up to my graduation was that, I was not an honors student.
Then, my trouble begun when I was in second year high school. It was our festival. Dancing until midnight was one of the highlights of the event and of course I was there together with my friends. My mother showed up and asked me to go home. What I didn’t know was that, my father followed her. Even I knew that it was still early, I said goodbye to my friends and stepped outside the dancing hall when my father grabbed my hair, kicked my legs and gave me a strong slap on my face in front of my friends and many people. I stumbled down. I was so shocked. For the first time of my life, my father hit me like that for no reason. My life continued as normal, every time the school had events at night, I was not able to attend. Even to go out with my friends I was not allowed. There were so many big “NO'S” when it came to me otherwise he would reward me with a slap.

I DON’T CONSIDERED AS SUCH - On the other hand, I still did great in school despite the fact that my neighbor and friends labelled me as a battered daughter but I didn’t consider it as such. Yes he did hit me, maybe once or twice every two months? I truly believed that it was not his intention to hurt me, it just happened, that was why I just laughed or maybe I’m just used to it. I love my father so much. I remember when my teacher asked me to cover and made a write about the “Enter High school Sports Tournament” as my project and practice for editorial writing contest and cartooning, it was fun indeed! However, on the way home, in front of many people, I saw him with an angry face. I composed myself not to feel nervous at the same time, my mother, brothers and the people looked worried. I looked at them one by one and smiled. I went straight to the direction of my father prepared for his action without knowing that it was not his hand who hit me but it was a piece of guava tree branch. I received the hit so many times with my body, legs, thighs and arms which made my body decorated with bruises for a couple of days. His actions continued until I graduated from college but I didn’t feel any madness towards him because I believed that someday, he would realized that what he did to me was wrong. Two years after from my graduation, I was settled to work as a high school teacher in our town. I thought that everything is fine but the history repeat.

TROUBLE MIND - I was totally confused and wanted a battle but I couldn’t. There was no courage in me to do against him. He was my father likewise I also wanted to give him a message that was enough. Until now, I still have this question why? Under those circumstances, I decided to apply to be a caregiver so that I could be away from him before my heart would stop loving him. Everything was a success, I flew to Canada with mixed emotions, I was very happy because I will have my freedom and nobody can hurt me at the same time sad because I will be away from my family and friends and the work that I love. In the long run, I still made myself believed that I am strong despite of the circumstances that I experienced which were worse than I ever expected. There were times that, I wanted to come home but I admit I am scared, so scared! Until last year, last time I spoke to him on the phone and he said he was happy, proud and prepared to die for God blessed him with loving children.

YOU'RE ALWAYS IN MY HEART FATHER - If I can only bring back the time. I will be at your side until your last breath. For all the things that had happened between me and my father, the love is so strong. I don’t feel any grudges instead I have regrets why I did not give my time to care for him while he was very sick. I will forever regret and ask for forgiveness. Eight years we haven’t seen each other and now it is forever. I love you father, you may rest in peace!

Color Recognition - Blue

Teaching children about color recognition
Image result for color blueis a must at early age. They need to learn the basic information regarding colors because these will be the best for them to describe so many things around them.

Knowing and understanding colors at early age, we now know that children are ready to explore more the world around them on their own way. When the children starts naming colors without telling them what color it is, the children starts using their descriptive language and creativity which is good because their cognitive skill is highly develop.
Color "Blue" for three years old

Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the children will be able to identify and differentiate the color “blue” from other colors.
Pre-requisite Skills:
Recognition of the color, gross motor and language skills
Materials Needed:
Ø  Pictures with color blue
Ø  CrayonsØ  Blocks in different colors
Classroom Dynamics:
Sitting in a circle or semi-circle around the teacher where the children can see the different pictures with the color blue on it.
Presentation:
Ø  Introduce the color blue.
Ø  Show pictures with color blue on it.Ø  Let the children look around the classroom to find toys or anything that has “blue” color on it.Ø  Let the children point it out and show to the class that he/she found the color blue.
Reinforcement Activity:
Let the children sit in a semi-circle and place the blocks in the middle. Ask them one by one to pick three blocks (2 blocks = any different colors and 1
block = color blue), then by group (build or play the blocks)
Developmental Focus:
Ø  Intellectual by identifying the color “blue” and  learning language
Ø  Gross motor by getting the objectsØ  Social by talking to their friends about the color blue on the pictures and when they play by group.

Transient Tic Disorder

4:58 am 0 Comments

Bill Rogers (2006) in his book cited the report of Branwhite's study (Branwhite, 1988) that, "a teacher's capacity to empathize was the most valued teacher quality cited by his pupil." Meaning, good teaching and effective teacher is not only best in discussing and giving ideas as well as the logical thinking about the subject matter but also in imparting the positive attitudes to her/his student. Understanding their feelings and identifying their imperatives enable the teacher to address their deepest needs. Presumably, touches the students' inner self especially at the crucial stage of the child’s life. This, I’m referring to, is the early childhood education which I believe would create a positive attitude in them helpful for their wellbeing in the future.

Indeed, everyone in the class deserves the attention of the teacher. However, sometimes amidst the crowd in the classroom someone needs the proper attention and care the most. Maybe one of them suffers transient tic disorder which is common among children below 18 years old. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry states that tics affect up to 10 percent of children during their early school years (AACAP, 2012).

A child who is suffering from a transient tic disorder exhibits either a single motor or vocal tics or multiple motor or vocal tics uncontrollably. This disorder is three to four times more likely to happen in boys than girls. Grounds with its gender relation are still unfounded and unknown up to this time. Tics will be aggravated if the child experienced pressure, anxious and stressful situations. But it will considerably lessen or possibly stop when the child is fascinated and engrossed with novel and unique things, situations and tasks.

A motor tic is a repetitive, sudden involuntary spasmodic muscular twitch or contraction while vocal tic is also a repetitive and an involuntary noise or shouts. Both tics are symptoms of neurological abnormalities. However, as the name suggest it is transient, meaning passing because it does not stay long.

Normally tics occur several times in a day for few months but linger no longer 12 months.  For a change, based on the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), the term ‘transient’ tic disorder was changed to ‘provisional’ tic disorder “for tics that started less than a year before diagnosis.” Still, both terms ‘transient’ and ‘provisional’ suggest that the disorder is temporary.

Yet, many medical practitioners studying on this particular disorder did not counsel parents or guardians to be lenient regarding this type of tic disorder. Instead, they further advice those concerns, including parents, guardians, teachers and physician connected with the child to be keen and seriously watchful for the development of the child. Therefore, it would be good for everybody to study the following observable tics so that at any time, anyone concerns can monitor the child’s progress.

Motor (physical) tics can include the following:

o        Eye blinking
o   Head twitching
o   Clenching the fists
o   Curling the toes
o   Repetitive or obsessive touching
o   Flaring the nostrils/nose wrinkling
o   Facial grimacing
o   Jumping
o   Jerking the arms
o   Kicking
o   Opening the mouth
o   Raising the eyebrows
o   Shrugging the shoulders
o   Sticking out the tongue/lip biting

Vocal (sound) tics may also include:
o   Barking
o   Clicking
o   Coughing
o   Grunting
o   Hissing
o   Moaning
o   Sniffing
o   Snorting
o   Squealing
o   Throat clearing

The provisional tic disorder is just a kind of tic disorders which might be considered as the mildest. The other two tic disorders are the following, Persistent (chronic) tic disorder and the Tourette Syndrome (TS). I may not discuss any further regarding the other tic disorders on this paper because my focus is only about the provisional tic disorder and some of its challenges.

Generally, based on the many published studies concerning the tic disorders, there is much ambiguity regarding its cause and origin. Meaning to say, until today, researchers have never found any link as to why and how this kind of disorder developed. However, according to
Carelse, M (2013), that this disorder has a strong genetic component, and therefore this run in families. In other words, it is hereditary, which other researchers have also the same idea. Other research has also suggested that the “constant movement or sound production is related to brain chemical (neurotransmitter) abnormalities (dopamine).”
Although tics may not stay forever with the child, it may affect him tremendously. While still suffering, the child obviously faces peer pressure, bullying and teasing. These painful experiences may deter his social interaction and put him under distress which heightens the tics. Considerably, the child’s learning aptitude is also affected.

But this situation did not leave us helpless. The Early Childhood Education providers, particularly the teachers have much to do to relieve, improve and even stop the child’s tic disorder. A collaboration between education provider and parents is a must here. When a mentor notices a child exhibiting a symptom he/she should immediately talk to the child’s parents, ask his/her history and family background related to the disorder. Or much helpful still, the parents themselves should inform the teacher of their child’s tics, so that appropriate measures could be applied accordingly.

In addition, the following guidelines or strategies are helpful for mentors handling a child with the provisional tic disorder:
1.     Encourage parents’ child to educate their own child about his/her tics and to explain it with other children. This will help the child to be at ease with his/her tics and lessen his/her stress and anxiety.
2.     Do not criticize or affront the child for his/her tics. Remember that the child is not doing it on purpose. Moreover, your attention will stress and pressure the child, which will heighten or worsen the tics.
3.     Educate the children about tics disorder to raise their awareness so that they will react with their classmate who is suffering from the said disorder naturally.
4.      Be creative at all times. Engage the child in a novel situation or school/classroom activities.
