Ivy Fairy Mini-Garden and Benefits of Ivy Plants

12:45 pm 0 Comments

Another collection of plant that is now growing in my mini-garden is Ivy. So far she's doing well despite my children keep on touching the fairy, mushroom and everything that they see on the pot. My youngest Angelo tried to decorate also with his toys!!! He has also his own imagination.

Making miniature garden is one way of helping me relieve from stress everyday and of course collecting houseplants. Making them is just my newly found hobby to continue living with my art of imagination.

The picture on the side is the original miniature ivy fairy miniature garden with mushroom fairy house, yet my youngest Angelo, took and broke it. So, I just replace it with mushroom. If ever I have time to make the mushroom house, I will try to make it again... probably summer I hope so.
How did I make this Ivy-Fairy Miniature Garden? Making it is very simple, simply gather all the materials you need. Most of the pot people are using have holes to drain the water so roots of the plants are not soak in the water that causes to rot and plants will die however, you ca use also non-holes pot. It just be careful not to over water the plants. In this Mini garden I am using bowl.
For no holes pot, what I did? was I put gravel on the bottom of the bowl/pot, then add the dirt, the gravel serves as a drainage. Water the plants once every two weeks.
I am not an expert about this but it works for me, so maybe it works for you too. Happy gardening.
I'm collecting plants because what I know will helps purify the air inside the house. Of course, as I'm into this hobby, I started researching if there are other benefits for having this plants. I was really surprised because Ivy plants has a lot of health benefits. In the website Organic Facts, there are 6 Impressive Benefits listed such as:
  • Anti-inflammatory Effects
  • Detoxifies the body
  • Skin Care
  • Relieves Congestion
  • Prevent Cancer
  • Anti-bacterial properties
Wow, I never thought that these plant have these listed benefits, AMAZING!!!
English Ivy is also listed as number one best-air purifying plant by NASA because it is most efficient plant in absorbing formaldehyde.
By the way, there are different types of Ivy, I have had 3 kinds unfortunately, one died, the other one; trying to survive and this one on the picture.

Wandering Jew Plant

9:06 am 0 Comments
Wandering Jew plant is one of my houseplant collections, this plant is beautiful & very easy to care & propagate.

I started this plant with very tiny cuttings I found in Walmart when they were cleaning. I never thought, it will grow easily & rapidly.

The picture posted on the right was a tiny little piece, I thought she is dying and need to be rescued. I took her home hoping she will live and continue to grow. I always moist the soil and continue caring for this little fellow. I observe its doing great as the days go along.

Below is the picture after 4 days. WOW!!!, I saw life in my Wandering Jew plant. There's hope, I'm so happy.

So,  I observed this plant is very easy to propagate & to take care of. We don't need to be expert or have the so-called green thumb to have this in the soil. Just water it every time you see that the soil is dry.

As I became attached to this plant, I made a researched online and I found that that there are so many varieties and they are all beautiful.

Now, I want to collect them all unfortunately I don't know where to buy the rest of the varieties I like.

By the way, the last picture posted is the same Wandering Jew plant, this is the picture after 5 months. I already made a cuttings on it and started a new plants. They are already growing also. I will post he update soon for the new plants from cuttings.

According to Wikipedia, Ficus elastica, the rubber figrubber bushrubber treerubber plant, or Indian rubber bushIndian rubber tree, is a species of plant in the fig genus, native to East India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, China (Yunnan), Malayia & Indonesia. The it has become naturalized in Sri Lanka & the West Indies.
This is a large tree, usually grow outside but can adapt also indoor with bright light. Nowadays, rubber plant is a common houseplant.

Rubber tree plant is added to my houseplant collections. It is a Variegated Rubber Tree Plant, bought in Plant shop at Atwater Market... I had this plant before given by a neighbor but sadly died when my 4 yrs old baby pee on the plant many times //but that's okay.

By the way, the information on the right side is from Wikipedia, I duly recognized & give the credits to it.

Rubber tree plant is one of my favorite houseplant thus, I've been looking & searching where to buy fortunately, I found it in the Atwater Market after searching all the plant shops out there. I was stunned the beauty of it. I remember the one I had was very green but this new plant I have has white on the leaves & they call it Variegated Rubber Tree. I'm so happy!!!

So, now how to keep Rubber Tree plant alive? For me, it's really challenging because of my little one who keep on killing my plants. He don't do it in purpose though, he just like to play, cutting the leaves with scissors or just picking them. I have to constantly watching him & keep on reminding him not to touch.

Well so much for that, according to the information I gathered online, rubber tree plant doesn't like to sit in water, so make sure to re-pot it in the well-draining soil & good aerated potting soil.

How much light does this plant need? Most of the plants wants light for sure & so this Rubber plant, she loves very bright light, some info tells not to expose in the direct sunlight but mine I put it in the window where the sunlight hit directly to the plant but I do make sure that it watered enough.

When do you water & fertilize this plant? It really depends, but for me I always touch the soil, if it is dry I water it with lukewarm water. I never use cold water to my plants except my mini-orchids. Lukewarm water is the best to water my plants.

You can choose to re-pot the plant right away or wait until the plant settled & use to the new environment. Some says, if you don't re-pot the plant it will not grow, maybe true but in my case it's not true because until now I did not re-pot, it's growing. But that doesn't mean, I will not re-pot at all. I just don't have time to do it.

This is my Rubber Tree Plant, isn't she beautiful? I paid $29.99 plus tax of course. Lolz!!!

Price is worthy,
plant is healthy
grows beautifully.

Aquarium Terrarium

7:29 pm 0 Comments
This was our old aquarium, I almost throw this out into the garbage because it was leaking. Been moving for so many times, then I decided to empty it out when there was a constant water on the side.

There were plenty of Guppies on this tank and were transferred to our big Fish tank. While this empty aquarium dump at the back nearly thrown outside for a garbage, I decided to make a terrarium and this is it. My Fairy Mini Garden Terrarium.

You’re in my thoughts and in my dreams
Beautiful smiles that beams
Through the darkness as it seems
Sun shines above that gleams

Dear heart believe it’s true
That someone fall for you
Love from a distance I know
Difficult to reach, makes me blue.

                           Though we are far away
But our heart beats in one way
Direct to the path, hope one day
Miracle will happen, we will stay.

You are my sun that shines
In this gloomy life confines
Giving me inspiration every times
My love for you is divine.
